Some people in various northern and central provinces may feel that the weather is already hot, but even hotter days are predicted, reaching a peak on April 8, according to Somkuan Tonjan, director of Meteorological Observation Division, today.
Somkuan suggested that it will be extremely hot, though there might be some rain from April 9th to 11th, which could bring some temporary relief before the long Songkran holidays.
He explained that the current hot weather is not considered a heat wave, like the one that came from Nepal and India and affected Thailand in 2016, but is due to the low pressure cell covering the country.
The highest temperatures recorded yesterday were:
- Central region: 42.3oC in Muang district of Kanchanaburi.
- Northern region: 42.0oC in Muang district of Lampang.
- North-eastern region: 40.9oC in Sawang Wirawong district of Ubon Ratchathani and Muang district of Surin.
- Bangkok and vicinity: 40.7oC in Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani.
The Meteorological Department anticipates hot weather in all four regions today, with maximum temperatures ranging from 40oC-42oC, with isolated rain showers in the southern region.
In and around Bangkok, the maximum will be between 36oC to 40oC.
