Billionaire investor Steve Cohen expressed on Wednesday that the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology will aid in introducing the four-day work week.
“I anticipate a four-day work week is on the horizon,” Cohen, the owner of the New York Mets, stated. Cohen conveyed this on Wednesday during an appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
Cohen mentioned that due to the rise of AI and the observation that “people are just not as productive on Fridays,” the shorter work week seems unavoidable.
“I simply believe it’s inevitable. The timing is uncertain, but it should align with a trend towards more leisure,” he commented.
This vision partly influenced his choice to invest in the golf startup league TGL in 2023, he added.
However, Cohen stated that as long as markets stay open, he does not plan to allow his traders to have Fridays off.
“Leaving us aside, I believe the vast majority of people will have the opportunity, at some point, to enjoy a three-day weekend,” he remarked.
Last month progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) introduced a bill. introduced a bill that would establish a standard four-day work week in the U.S. without reducing pay.
Sen. Laphonza Butler (D-Calif.) co-sponsored the Thirty-Two Hour Workweek Act, and Rep. Mark Takano (D-Calif.) introduced a corresponding bill in the House.
Republicans panned the proposal.
