The Cabinet approved the proposal from the wage committee today to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht per day for employees working in 4-star hotels in certain areas of 10 tourist provinces, starting from April 13.
The 4-star hotels must have at least 50 employees and be situated in particular districts of Bangkok, Krabi, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Phang-nga, Phuket, and Rayong, as well as in Songkhla and Surat Thani.
The reasons for choosing these specific locations include the significant income they generate from tourism. The decision was made after a public hearing involving all stakeholders, with the aim of benefiting both the employers and employees in the tourism industry.
Some hotels in these areas have objected to the wage increase, stating that they are not prepared to handle the additional costs.
