The Senate has voted against appointing the former deputy president of the Supreme Administrative Court as its president.
158 votes to 45 in a secret ballot, Senate president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai announced the rejection of Wissanu Waranyoo's nomination today.
A standing committee nominated him after checking his background and ethical behavior.
However, Wissanu received criticism for his close association with Piyabutr Saengkanokkul, a mentor of Move Forward Party core members known for advocating monarchy reform.
Wissanu attended Piyabutr’s wedding and made a toast to the bride and groom on stage.
Furthermore, his digital footprint showed that he once used negative words to describe Gen Prem in a Facebook post about a protest in front of the late former Privy Council president Gen Prem Tinsulanonda’s residence.
In March, Wissanu defended himself in an open letter to the senators, stating that he attended the wedding as Piyabutr’s teacher and had no involvement in Piyabutr’s political stance.
Regarding the message on his Facebook page, he claimed he shared somebody’s message to mock the protesters sarcastically.
He stated that he has no personal negative feelings or opinions towards Prem.
