Jason Wilcox reportedly resigned from Southampton and is going to join Manchester United as a technical director, making the Saints very angry.
Wilcox, who previously served as Manchester City’s academy director, is expected to play an important role in United’s new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
He will now work under incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth, who himself moved from Newcastle to Old Trafford as INEOS continues to make various changes.
Wilcox had been working as Southampton’s director of football but has chosen to join the Red Devils in a different capacity, according to widespread reports.
It has also been reported that the south coast club are angry with United over the timing of their approach for Wilcox and the two sides had a major disagreement.
Southampton, who currently play in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League, refused to accept United’s compensation offer.
The Saints believe Wilcox is worth much more than what United offered while the Red Devils believe it is ‘unrealistic’ for Southampton to expect a higher sum.
It is understood United have met a buyout clause in Wilcox’s contract but Southampton are disputing the existence of the clause.
Meanwhile, United’s minority owners, who have taken over football operations, confirmed the appointment of Omar Berrada as the club’s new CEO in January.
Rio Ferdinand argued that United’s decision to appoint Berrada as their new chief executive was their ‘best January signing’.
