President Biden held the yearly Easter Egg Roll on Monday and referred to Easter as a time for forgiveness as he invited thousands of people to the White House lawn.
The Egg Roll was delayed due to bad weather, but Biden, first lady Jill Biden, and the Easter Bunny eventually greeted people at the event from the White House balcony.
When asked about the meaning of Easter, Biden mentioned it's a time for forgiveness, being genuine, and showing love and honesty towards others.
The Easter Egg Roll, a tradition at the White House since 1878, had the theme “EGGucation” and included educational activities on the South Lawn, such as a reading nook, a physical “EGGucation” zone, and a “field trip to the farm” area.
Biden addressed the crowd from the White House balcony, emphasizing the themes of hope, renewal, sacrifice, resurrection, love, and grace towards one another that Easter represents.
Biden expressed his belief in the goodness of the American people and the importance of upholding the nation's solid values, which are admired by the rest of the world.
Biden left the White House to greet attendees and oversee a group of children rolling eggs across the lawn using wooden spoons.
While interacting with the children, Biden noticed a crying child, spoke with her, and then accompanied her as she participated in rolling an egg across the lawn.
The theme “EGGucation” this theme has been used by the first lady for the past two years. She read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” to a group of children and encouraged them to explore the dinosaur exhibits on the lawn after the reading.
Six hot air balloon replicas floated near the White House, each representing science, engineering, technology, art, and math. Despite the intermittent rain, children engaged in activities while a band played outside the White House.
Several lawmakers, including Reps. Colin Allred (D-Texas) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), were observed among the attendees.
