A youngster was rescued after getting into trouble in a smaller river connected to the Thames.
On Saturday around 3pm, people saw a 9-year-old boy in the River Brent in Hanwell, west London.
Onlookers called the police, who first tried to shout to the boy while he was in the water up to his waist.
When he didn't respond, one of the officers went into the river and picked him up.
The child was given to paramedics and then reunited with his family after they found out he was okay.
Sergeant Yusuf Hassaniyeh, who took the boy out of the river, said: 'When we got the call, we acted quickly.
We knew time was running out, and we were determined to reach the child before it was too late.'
Acting Chief Inspector of the Metropolitan Police, Jonathon Hubbard, said about the officers who helped: 'They showed great courage, which represents the best qualities of the police force.'
'We are extremely proud of what they did, which likely saved the child's life.'
