A tailor wants to give 300 baht to anyone who catches a male monkey called “Chipped Ear” and takes him away. This monkey is famous for taking women's underwear. Park officials are going to start catching alpha monkeys again on Monday and taking them to a shelter in Nakhon Nayok province.
Many people on social media have shared the reward from the tailor. The tailor mentioned that “Chipped Ear” has a mark on his ear from an old injury. The monkey often takes things from the tailor's shop, especially women’s underwear that is left out to dry on a balcony.
Then the monkey plays with the things he took until they are damaged and then he leaves them. Anyone who can catch him and put him in a cage or tie him up can go to the tailor's shop to get the reward.
Another male monkey, named “Thanadet”, likes to chase women on motorcycles, according to another message.
Padet Laithong, who is in charge of the Wildlife Conservation Office, said that although they have only caught 23 alpha monkeys so far, it's helping to reduce the problem with aggressive macaques. Five of the males have been sterilized.
The caught monkeys are now being kept at a shelter in Saraburi and are watched by vets. Eventually, they will be moved to a monkey zoo in Pho Kao Ton sub-district, once the zoo is partly finished in mid-April.
He said he will talk to the mayor of the Muang district to make a plan for catching the monkeys. This is expected to happen three days a week.
