Martin Odegaard admits Arsenal defended deeper than they initially planned in their goalless draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal put up a strong defensive performance to secure a point at the Etihad Stadium, preventing City from scoring at home in the Premier League for the first time in 76 games.
But Arsenal's offensive opportunities were also limited as City kept them from making many attacks.
The draw at the Etihad Stadium means Liverpool move two points ahead of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after their victory over Brighton earlier on Sunday, while City are in third place, three points behind Jurgen Klopp’s side.
When asked if he felt Arsenal could have been more adventurous against City, Odegaard told Premier League Productions: 'That's the feeling we have also.
'We feel like we could've done better in terms of ball possession. Especially when you win it, the first one or two passes are crucial to relieve the initial pressure and gain control of the game.
'But when you're running so much and defending… I feel like we ended up defending deeper than we had planned, so when you win the ball and you're tired, it's really hard.
'But today we couldn't do it, I agree it's a step we can take in the future.'
When asked if he is content with a point against City, Odegaard said: 'Yes, I think we're a bit disappointed to be honest.
'We wanted to win, and we feel like we could've done better in certain areas.
'It's mixed feelings, it's a tough place to come. If you look at the game last season and everything that happened the last few times we came here, it's a good point, but we could've done better.'
