The person riding the e-bike suffered severe life-threatening injuries after being struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
A 41-year-old man was riding an e-bike in Plymouth was part of a hit-and-run on Friday evening.
A silver Vauxhall Insignia reportedly crashed into an electric bike, and then the car driver left the accident scene.
Authorities have confirmed that a man in his twenties was detained on suspicion of 'driving while unfit through drink or drugs'.
There was a significant police presence in the area over the weekend, with about 12 police cars and 20 officers present in the early hours of Saturday morning.
In a statement, a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: 'Police are seeking witnesses and information following a serious road traffic accident on Alma Road at the junction with Outland Road, Plymouth.
‘Officials were notified around 11pm on Friday, March 29, about a collision involving a silver Vauxhall Insignia and a Sur-Ron Electric Bike.
‘The 41-year-old man riding the Electric Bike sustained severe life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. His family has been informed.
‘The Vauxhall Insignia did not stop at the scene. Police are seeking the public’s help in tracing a silver Vauxhall Insignia with registration FP09FYD.
‘It’s believed this vehicle is in the Plymouth area and will have damage to the front end.
‘A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by reckless driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop at the accident site.
‘An inquiry was conducted at the scene and officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their understanding during this process.
‘Anyone with relevant information or dash-cam footage that may aid the investigation is asked to contact police via our website or by calling 101 and quoting log 884 of 29 March.’
