The reason why Prince William was not beside his wife in her video sharing her cancer announcement has been revealed.
Weeks ago, the Princess of Wales announced she has been privately undergoing preventative chemotherapy for an undisclosed type of cancer.
The emotional video came after weeks of speculation and worry about Kate’s health – now a palace source has shared why William was not in the video.
Speaking to People, the source said: ‘It is a message from the princess about her health, and she wanted to personally deliver the message on her own.
‘William is extremely proud of his wife for the courage and strength she has shown not just this week but since her surgery in January.
‘Now more than ever, he’s focused on ensuring his wife has the privacy she needs to fully recover and that his children are shielded from the understandable interest in the news that has been shared.
‘She and the prince needed time to process the news, she needed time to recover from surgery and she needed time to tell the children. That was the driving force.’
The couple share children Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, and waited until the trio were on their Easter holidays before going public with the news.
The Princess of Wales underwent an abdominal surgery at the London Clinic on January 16 for what was then believed to be a non cancerous condition.
It happened the same time as King Charles was getting treatment at the facility. But biopsy results of the operation showed that cancer was present, doctors said.
In a devastating address to the nation, Kate said: ‘It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.
‘In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.
‘However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.’
