Lizzo She has achieved great success in her career recently, whether it's from gaining widespread attention online TikTok, winning Grammys, or performing at Glastonbury.
But now, the star is fed up.
In a surprising statement, the artist behind Juice has revealed that she is ‘leaving’ the entertainment industry.
By declaring ‘I quit’ in a dramatic statement, Lizzo, who is 35 years old, has stated that she is being mocked online for her appearance and her personality.
The singer, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, does not specify what she is referring to or what prompted the online message.
However, this comes a day after a lawyer, representing three former dancers who filed a lawsuit against Lizzo last August, expressed that it was ‘shameful’ for the singer to headline a Radio City fundraiser for President Joe Biden ‘amid such serious allegations’.
‘I’m getting tired of enduring being criticized by everyone in my life and on the internet,’ Lizzo said on Instagram.
‘All I want is to create music and bring joy and make the world a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.
‘I’m constantly being faced with false information being spread about me for attention & views… being the subject of mockery every single time because of my appearance.
‘My personality being dissected by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.’
She ended the post saying: ‘I didn’t sign up for this s**t. I quit,’ with a peace sign emoji.
In response to the post, which has received hundreds of thousands of likes, fans and celebrity friends offered their support.
‘We love you Queen😍👑’, commented Paris Hilton.
‘All of this. The internet isn’t real life. Protect you. We love you’, wrote Sophia Bush.
Todrick Hall commented: ‘I know it’s hard, but you inspire so many people! The art you make changes and saves lives. Sending you so much ❤️’
Josh Gad added: ‘This is the absolute truth. Hold your head up. The people who shout the loudest or the people who are the most insecure.’
In the meantime, fans pleaded with Lizzo not to give up on making music, with many encouraging her to ‘keep doing what you love’.
Last August, Lizzo and her production company were sued by ex-dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused the Good As Hell singer of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
At the time, the pop star described the allegations as ‘gut-wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing’, adding that the claims are ‘as unbelievable as they sound’.
Lizzo previously took to social media to address the accusations, writing in a statement in August: ‘My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticised.’
She said she never meant to make anyone feel uncomfortable or unimportant as a part of the team.
Lizzo appeared at Radio City Music Hall in New York for a fundraiser for the US president, which Mindy Kaling hosted, on Thursday (March 28).
Ron Zambrano, the lawyer representing the three former dancers, reportedly told NewsNation, 'It's disgraceful that Lizzo would be selected to headline an event like this given such serious accusations.'
