Wolves boss Gary O’Neil rejects rumors connecting him with a surprising move to Premier League giants Manchester United.
It was reported during the international break that United were fans of O’Neil and wanted to approach him about a role in a coaching team at Old Trafford.
O’Neil spent nearly twenty years in the English game as a player, representing teams like Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Bolton.
He has gained many supporters since taking over at Molineux last summer, with Wolves moving into the top-half of the Premier League after finishing 13th last season.
O’Neil says it is a ‘privilege’ to be associated with a ‘special club’ like Manchester United but asserts there is ‘no truth’ behind the rumors.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference before Wolves’ return game against local rivals Aston Villa on Saturday, O’Neil said: ‘There’s no truth to it and I don’t know where it came from.
‘Growing up, Liverpool and Man United seemed like special clubs so it’s a privilege to be linked, but all of my focus is here. I love it here.’
Asked whether he has had any contact with Manchester United, who are considering a summer overhaul, O’Neil added: ‘No, nothing at all. I was only made aware of it by our media team.’
