The Yellow Line monorail started running a limited service today. Five stations are still not open, so that repairs can be made to damage on the conductor rail caused by the displacement of an expansion joint finger plate.
Because the closure of five stations has inconvenienced commuters, who now have to switch trains at Hua Mark and Si Iam stations, the Eastern Bangkok Monorail Company, the Yellow Line concessionaire, has reduced fares by 20% for the entire route between Lat Phrao and Samrong.
The number of passengers using the service today is lower than usual.
Passengers wanting to go to Samrong from Lat Phrao will need to change trains at Hua Mark station, while those traveling from Samrong will have to change trains at Si Iam station, because only one rail is in operation between Hua Mark and Si Iam stations.
Ten extra buses from the Bangkok Mass Transit Company have been put into service to transport passengers between Hua Mark and Si Iam stations.
The company stated that service has resumed today at 18 stations, except for Kalantan, Si Nut, Srinagarind 38, Phra Ram 9, and Si Udom, which remain closed.
To prevent a repeat of the conductor rail incident, the company has requested the manufacturer of the finger plate to address the displacement issue or devise a new design.
Debris from the conductor rail fell onto the road below, causing damage to a few vehicles. No one was hurt. The service was suspended all day yesterday.
