Capcom has released its initial update for Dragon’s Dogma 2 as it achieves the largest game launch in the UK this year.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 may have annoyed some players with its microtransactions at launch, but Capcom seems to be paying attention to the feedback.
The fantasy role-playing game was launched last week and, despite positive reviews, faced some complaints initially about performance problems and the scarcity of certain in-game items – which were then purchasable via microtransactions.
One of the major issues, the inability to start a new game in Dragon’s Dogma 2 when existing save data is present, has now been fixed in a new update for PlayStation 5 and PC.
The update, which is scheduled to be released for Xbox Series X/S players in the next few days, has also increased the number of Art of Metamorphosis items available at Pawn Guilds from 2 to 99. This allows players to have more flexibility in changing the appearance of their Arisen, which was another significant concern at launch.
In addition to minor bug fixes, the update also includes the option to turn motion blur and ray tracing on or off, as well as the ability to limit the frame rate to 30fps. Previously, the game only had an unlimited frame rate, which meant it could go above or below 30fps.
Despite the criticisms, Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to have had a successful launch. According to Gamesindustry.biz’s Christopher Dring, who references GSD data including digital sales, the title ‘narrowly’ surpassed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth to achieve the biggest launch of the year so far in the UK.
While these figures do not include Palworld, it’s still a noteworthy achievement for a relatively unknown franchise. It is important to note, however, that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available on several platforms while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is exclusive to PS5.
Capcom has pledged to release more updates for Dragon’s Dogma 2 in the future, which will include enhancements to the overall frame rate. Meanwhile, you can find the complete patch notes for this update below.
