Todd Boehly is set to be removed as Chelsea chairman in 2027, according to reports.
The American billionaire has been quite unpopular in the role ever since BlueCo took control from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.
Chelsea supporters launched a campaign against their owners last week, showing Boehly as a clown on mass-produced stickers with the words: ‘Get them out.’
Chelsea have spent over £1 billion on players in the BlueCo era but they have faced massive struggles on the pitch.
The west Londoners finished 12th in the Premier League last term, while this season is not going much better under head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine was appointed this summer after BlueCo sacked both Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in the 2022-23 campaign.
Boehly admits he has made ‘mistakes’ while he has also been involved in a number of gaffes, purportedly desiring his team to play an impossible formation.
He also spoke of his desire to introduce an American-style All-Star game in England, which was mostly ridiculed.
But there is good news for Chelsea supporters with the Daily Mail reporting that Boehly will be ousted as chairman in three years.
The bad news, however, is that he will be replaced by someone else from the unpopular BlueCo consortium – with the club’s co-owners able to pass the chairmanship between themselves every five years – thanks to an agreement.
Behdad Eghbali or Jose Feliciano from Clearlake Capital could reportedly fill the role, although they may seek a third party to take the reigns.
Eghbali was seen fleeing from angry Chelsea fans after a 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa earlier this season.
Gary Neville called Chelsea ‘billion pound bottle jobs’ last month while it also recently emerged that the club had made a pre-tax loss of £90.1m.
