Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara will soon go to Japan to have discussions about rumors that Japan might end the visa-free perk for Thai travelers because many Thais are staying in Japan longer than allowed.
Today, he stated that although he is worried about the rumors, Japan has the right to cancel the visa exemption for Thais if many of them break the law, just like Thailand does with foreign tourists.
According to him, only a few Thais have broken the law in Japan, and he will ask his Japanese counterpart not to cancel the visa exemption for Thai travelers.
He mentioned that negotiations for the Schengen visa of the European Union are ongoing, and he doesn't know how long it will take to reach an agreement. However, he is confident that an agreement will be reached during the Srettha administration's term.
Parnpree also expressed his belief that the last eight Thai hostages held by Hamas in Gaza might be released, following a resolution on a ceasefire passed by the United Nations Security Council on Monday.
He stated that at least three of the remaining hostages are thought to still be alive and have been seen.
