Protesters yell ‘down with the crown’ at Queen Camilla as she arrives at Worcester Cathedral.
She is arriving for the yearly Maundy Service without King Charles as he continues to receive cancer treatment.
Members of the anti-monarchy group Republic can be seen giving her a less than friendly welcome, as they hold up large yellow signs protesting her appearance.
Charles is due to join other members of the Royal Family on Sunday at a scaled-down Easter service at Windsor Castle.
This will be his first public appearance at a royal event since it was announced in February he was suffering from cancer.
But he is due to address the nation in a recorded video message, in which he will praise people who ‘extend the hand of friendship’.
It is the first time a monarch has been represented by a spouse at the Maundy Thursday church service.
In 2022, King Charles – then the the Prince of Wales – acted on behalf of his mother Elizabeth II.
Last year both Charles and Camilla appeared at the service at York Minster.
Campaign group Republic protested Camilla’s visit, including holding up a large banner reading: ‘Abolish the monarchy.’
Graham Smith, speaking for Republic, said today: ‘Unlike royalists, we don’t conflate the family with the institution. It’s the institution we’re protesting against this week.
‘Republic’s campaign continues unabated and the protests will continue for as long as the monarchy is there.’
Prince William continues to care for wife Kate Middleton and their three children after the Princess of Wales revealed she has been undergoing chemotherapy.
