Hello and welcome to Seven in Seven. We'll be discussing concerts happening in the area over the next week. Whether you're a fan of rock 'n' roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter, or indie music, there will always be something for you to enjoy.
Here are seven of the top events for the week of March 29:
Morbikon will perform on Friday at Skid Row Garage
Black metal band Morbikon, led by guitarist/bassist Phil “Land Phil” Hall, who has been part of Municipal Waste, Cannabis Corpse, and Iron Reagan, is back for spring performances, which include a show at Skid Row Garage in York. The band follows the style of Scandinavian black metal and melodic death metal from the '90s.
KRS-One will be performing on Saturday at Ardmore Music Hall
The KRS-One show promises surprises, but one thing is certain – the hip hop legend will provide a valuable experience. As a founding member of Boogie Down Productions, he has aimed to elevate rap from an artform and genre to a platform for community improvement. Fans can expect freestyling, lectures, and classic hits from Boogie Down Productions and his own discography.
Joshua Radin will be at City Winery Main Stage on Saturday
After two decades in the music industry, singer-songwriter Joshua Radin remains a relatively undiscovered success. His music has been featured in projects by Zach Braff and he has even performed at Ellen DeGeneres' wedding. Following the release of his well-received album “The Ghost and the Wall,” Radin left his comfort zone, traveled, and used his experiences as inspiration for his two-volume EP “though the world will tell me so.”
Bas will be at The Theatre of Living Arts on Tuesday
Grammy-nominated rapper Bas is coming to The TLA to promote his latest album, which is titled “We Only Talk About Real [Expletive] When We’re [Expletived] Up.” The album was influenced by his travels across five continents since 2022 and features collaborations with artists from around the world, including J. Cole, A$AP FERG, Adekunle Gold from Nigeria, and Sha Sha from Zimbabwe. The album explores the trend where difficult topics are only openly discussed under the influence of substances, as well as the tendency of society to ignore challenging situations until they become critical, as seen in tracks like “Khartoum” and “Decent.”
San Fermin's performance will be on Wednesday, April 3, at Underground Arts
Brooklyn-based band San Fermin released their fifth album, “Arms,” through their own independent label Better Company Records last month. The nine-song album represents a new direction for the group as they move away from their usual elaborate sound to a more direct and honest sound reflecting bandleader and songwriter Ellis Ludwig-Leone’s unpretentious lyrics. It’s a departure from their previous chamber pop style, but still as captivating and meant to be heard live.
Erick the Architect will perform on Thursday, April 4, at The Foundry
Erick the Architect, a founding member and primary producer of the hip hop group Flatbush Zombies, has been exploring solo work for some time. He recently released his first album, “I’ve Never Been Here Before,” which was influenced by his Jamaican heritage, upbringing in church, the loss of his mother, a difficult breakup, and various other experiences. His music is also inspired by films, books, and art, with references to artists like Picasso, Brian Eno, and others shaping his work and style.
Jesus Jones will play on Thursday, April 4, at Ardmore Music Hall
Jesus Jones may be best known for their hit “Right Here Right Now,” but they have more to offer beyond that. Explore the English alt-rockers' catalog and discover a range of styles, catchiness, and energy. Attending the show in Ardmore next week might give you a newfound appreciation for the band.
