Trump criticized Brian L. Roberts, the chair of NBCUniversal’s parent company Comcast, after Ronna McDaniel, the former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair, was removed as a contributor to NBC News this week.
On his Truth Social website overnight Tuesday, Trump expressed that he feels the people at MSDNC are controlling NBC, and Chairman Brian Roberts appears to be powerless. Trump also commented on Chuck Todd's behavior towards Roberts and the hiring of Ronna without his approval.
McDaniel was dismissed by the network on Tuesday following strong objections from some of NBC’s main anchors and hosts, as well as those from its left-leaning sister network MSNBC.
After McDaniel's appearance for an interview on “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Todd stated that company executives owed her an apology and criticized her “credibility issues.”
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow urged NBC News executives to sever ties with McDaniel, citing her support for Trump.
McDaniel has faced criticism for her remarks about the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and her involvement in Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election result.
In a staff announcement, NBCUniversal News Group Chair Cesar Conde stated that the decision to bring her on board was made as a result of the network's commitment to presenting diverse viewpoints and experiences, especially during these critical times.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump ridiculed McDaniel over the news, stating that she was “fired by Fake News NBC, lasting only two days, despite her efforts to align with the network's interests.
For years, the former president has consistently criticized NBC and MSNBC, often referring to the network as “MSDNC.”
Trump, the likely Republican nominee for president, also recently hinted that if he is re-elected this fall, he would investigate Comcast for “treason.”
“Brian’s great father would have fired Chuck Todd, and all the rest of these losers, on the spot,” Trump wrote Tuesday. “Perhaps Brian still will. If I knew Ronna was going to troubled MSNBC, I would have advised her to change her name back to Romney, she would have had a better chance!”
