A property managed by the ‘world’s strictest landlord’ has been listed for rent, and renters are prohibited from consuming alcohol or having sex.
The double room, in Cramlington, Northumberland, is available to rent for £500 but tenants have been cautioned that they cannot have alcohol and that there are no overnight visitors allowed in the room.
The home also has been equipped with CCTV outside the house, which the landlord says is for ‘safety’.
One person looking for a room said: ‘This has to be the world’s strictest landlord.
‘It’s £500 per month but you aren’t allowed any alcohol or any overnight guests.
‘A no overnight guest clause is basically a sign for no sex.
‘If you’re paying that much, you should be able to live your life.
‘It’s none of the landlord’s business.’
The room, which is listed on SpareRoom, includes all bills and is described as a new build property.
The house is furnished with a fully fitted kitchen and is marketed towards full time students and professionals.
A spokesperson for SpareRoom said: ‘This room has been advertised by a homeowner who lives in the property so, within reason of course, the house rules are up to them.
‘Both of these are fairly common in set ups where someone is renting out a room in their home, but we’d always prefer the advertiser to explain why they have these rules, this will help a prospective lodger decide whether it’s the right place for them.
‘For example, saying “I don’t drink, so would prefer a lodger who also doesn’t” makes things clearer.'
