Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia vows to come back strong next season after being ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.
Since moving to Stamford Bridge from Southampton in a £60million deal last summer, the 20-year-old has had several issues and has only been able to make one substitute appearance for his new club.
Chelsea had hoped Lavia might return to training this month, giving him a small chance to make it into Belgium’s squad for the Euros.
However, on Wednesday afternoon, the west London club confirmed that Lavia's season has come to an early end due to a new setback Lavia is understandably disappointed with how his first season at Chelsea has gone, but he has committed to working hard to regain full fitness and make an impact in the upcoming seasons..
Lavia is understandably frustrated with his first season at Chelsea, but he has pledged to continue working hard to recover and make a difference next season and beyond.
Posting on Instagram, Lavia wrote: ‘Hi Chelsea family, as you may know, despite my countless efforts, I will be missing the rest of the season.
‘This has been a frustrating season for me, not being able to assist my team-mates.
‘I love this squad, this badge, and being on the pitch more than anything.
‘Trust that I have given my all every day to return.
‘Thank you for the love, support, and criticism because they all have a positive impact on me and keep me going.
‘I can’t wait to reciprocate and share many special moments together. See you soon.’
Lavia’s only appearance for Chelsea came off the bench against Crystal Palace on December 27, but he got injured in the same match and has not played again since.
The youngster had a great season with Southampton last year despite their relegation, playing in 29 Premier League matches, and was also pursued by Liverpool before choosing to move to Stamford Bridge.
Lavia’s injury limits Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options for the remaining matches, with the Blues next playing at home against Burnley this Saturday.
