Cabaret The actor Fritz Wepper has died at the age of 82, as confirmed by his wife.
The German actor was most well-known globally for his role as aspiring gigolo Fritz Wendel in the 1972 Oscar-winning film alongside Liza Minnelli and Michael York.
He also portrayed Harry Klein in over 280 episodes of the popular long-running German crime series Derrick from 1974 to 1998.
Wepper passed away on Monday morning in a Munich hospice, where he had been undergoing treatment for about a month after a prolonged illness.
His wife Susanne Kellermann said he passed away peacefully in a statement to German newspaper Bild.
During the five weeks before his death, Wepper had been receiving palliative care.
Born in 1945 in Munich, Wepper began his acting career at 11 years old in a production of Peter Pan.
One of his early major roles was in the film adaption of the Brothers Grimm fairytale The Wishing Table, known as Tischlein deck dich.
However, Wepper's breakthrough came as a young soldier in Bernhard Wicki’s anti-war film Die Brücke, which earned the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
