SpaceVIP is trying to attract customers in the new space tourism industry by giving the opportunity to bring six people just below the edge of space for a meal provided by a Michelin Star restaurant.
You can join them if you have $495,000, according to Popular Science.
It’s a chance for tourists to have a unique meal above 99% of Earth’s atmosphere, as stated by SpaceVIP to Popular Science.
Spaceship Neptune is a carbon neutral “SpaceBalloon” with a pressurized cabin designed by Space Perspective. Participants will get on the vessel and then spend six hours being served by Rasmus Munk, the head chef of Alchemist, which has earned two Michelin stars.
Roman Chiporukha, founder of SpaceVIP, said in a statement, “Embarking on this unprecedented culinary journey to space is an important moment in human history. This first trip is just the beginning of SpaceVIP’s mission to use space travel to enhance human consciousness and help shape our collective evolution.”
The trip is meant to inspire the overview effect, according to Space Perspective representatives, which refers to a feeling of wonder felt by many astronauts when they see Earth from space.
Participants will need to wake up early, as the schedule starts at 4 a.m. By 6 a.m., Spaceship Neptune will rise 100,000 feet above sea level, just as the sun comes up over the planet — about three times higher than a commercial airplane. For the next two hours, voyagers will be able to see the curved shape of Earth from 20 miles above — while enjoying some cocktails and appetizers.
By 10 a.m., the vessel will gently go down into the ocean, where a team will pick everyone up for their journey back to land.
Test flights will start later this year, with the trip set to begin in 2025.
