Ajax Christopher Vivell is being considered for the role of Director of Transfers at a club, but he is still under contract at Chelsea after being placed on gardening leave in July.
In December 2022, Vivell was appointed as technical director at Stamford Bridge as part of significant restructuring under the chairman. Todd Boehly.
He came to the club. Premier League after gaining a great reputation in scouting and recruitment at Salzburg and RB Leipzig, however, his time with the Blues did not go well. RB Co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart rose to prominence and Vivell’s position quickly came into question.
In July 2023 he was placed on gardening leave and
Sky Germany reports that he still remains under contract with Chelsea. Ajax is interested in hiring him as Director of Transfers, but they need to reach an agreement with Chelsea first.
Although less than 18 months ago, it seems like a lifetime since Vivell was brought in to work with then-manager Graham Potter.
Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said in a statement at the time: ‘We are delighted that Christopher is taking up this important leadership role at the club. His work in

Vivell also sounded extremely positive, saying: ‘Chelsea is building the most exciting project in global football, and I’m extremely proud to be joining the club.

Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data, and innovation, and I am looking forward to playing a part in that.
The German has been on gardening leave since July.
