Two crew members on a Holland America cruise ship lost their lives during an 'explosion' in the ship’s engineering space, as reported by the cruise line.
The two crew members who died on Friday were not identified, and the incident took place while the Florida-based Nieuw Amsterdam was at Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas, according to Holland America's statement.
The cruise line stated that authorities were informed and the accident's cause is under investigation. Counseling is being offered to crew members.
The statement expressed deep sadness about the incident and extended thoughts and prayers to the families of the team members affected.
The company emphasized that the safety, security, and welfare of all guests and crew are their highest priorities.
The cruise line did not provide further details about the crew members, but later indicated that the Bahamas Maritime Authority is leading the investigation.
The ship departed from Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a seven-night trip.
