Arsenal may try to take advantage of Nottingham Forest’s financial difficulties by attempting to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, as per reports.
Last week, Forest were given a four-point deduction after going over the permitted yearly loss by the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
They now need to raise more funds before June 30 to stay within the limits for next season – and prevent another points deduction.
Forest are therefore likely to sell some players and, according to the Daily Star, Arsenal are considering a move for Gibbs-White.
The midfielder has been one of the club’s stand-out performers since his £42.5million transfer from Wolves in 2022.
Despite Forest’s issues, Gibbs-White has been a standout and has achieved three goals and five assists in 28 Premier League appearances this season.
Arsenal are reportedly ‘watching his availability with interest’, though any move is likely to depend on other departures.
The Gunners have plenty of midfielders, but Emile Smith Rowe has only started twice in the league and could be sold if a good offer comes – making space for Gibbs-White at Arsenal.
However, despite Forest’s financial problems, the 24-year-old will not come cheap and the club is not under pressure to accept lowball offers.
As per the Telegraph, Forest will take a tough stance regarding the potential sale of their star players this summer and will demand over £50million for Gibbs-White.
For the sale to be worthwhile in terms of profit and sustainability, Forest will need a substantial offer to make a profit on the £42.5m they spent just two years ago.
Forest have shown they are prepared to negotiate hard and waited until after the profit and sustainability deadline last summer to sell Brennan Johnson to Tottenham, ensuring the biggest price possible even though it ultimately resulted in a points deduction.
Gibbs-White could be a good fit for the advanced, box-to-box role in Mikel Arteta’s midfield, and he would also be another homegrown player to add to the squad.
