Harris plans to meet with the families of those who died in the 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 14 students and 3 staff members lost their lives.
She is set to announce the establishment of the first-ever National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center, which aims to assist states in effectively implementing red-flag laws through training and technical support. The center will be funded by a Department of Justice grant from the bipartisan gun control bill that President Biden signed into law in 2022. President Biden signed into law in 2022.
The vice president will also issue an official call to action for states to utilize the resources from the bipartisan gun control bill to enact red flag laws.
Harris, accompanied by Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) and other state officials, will deliver a speech at 3:05 p.m. EDT during the trip.
