A gas station in Mayo district of Pattani province suffered severe damage after a military bomb disposal team set off a homemade bomb, believed to have been planted by rebels.
Upon receiving information about the presence of an LPG tank at the gas station, located on a road in Ko Chan sub-district this morning, security forces and a bomb disposal team were sent to the location.
The security forces secured a safe area around the gas station and used a drone to inspect the area. Then, a robot was used to destroy the improvised explosive device (IED) with a powerful water jet, leading to an explosion that caused serious damage to the gas station.
Authorities stated that, two days earlier, a person from Myanmar, who was living in a shelter near the gas station, was killed when a bomb, also suspected to have been planted by rebels, exploded.
Another gas station owned by the same individual was recently targeted with an IED.
Suspected rebels carried out a series of coordinated arson attacks on convenience stores, cell towers, a crushing plant, a timber warehouse, shop houses, CCTV cameras and construction machinery in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat on Friday, but there were no fatalities or injuries.
