Blake Lively has been left ‘mortified’ over her Kate Middleton joke, which was posted amid the ‘Katespiracy’ photoshop speculation.
Now with the shocking news of her cancer diagnosis, Blake has apologised for comments she made previously on the ‘photoshop fail’ scandal after facing backlash.
Many celebrities engaged in the memes, including Kim Kardashian who has not deleted her post, but now have switched to issuing messages of support for the Princess of Wales.
After weeks of speculation, Kate, 42, revealed her absence had been due to her undergoing chemotherapy as part of the treatment after abdominal surgery earlier this year.
The Gossip Girl actress had originally shared new campaign pictures for her drinks brand and said she was sorry for being ‘MIA’ and teased about the snaps being ‘photoshopped’.
Taking to her Instagram story, Blake, 36, wrote: ‘I’m sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this. I made a silly post around the “photoshop fails” frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today.
‘I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.’
She has since deleted the post promoting her mocktail brand, which had the comment: ‘Haters will say it’s photoshop.’
However, some fans weren’t impressed by her ‘cruddy’ apology and complained in the comments to the mum of four.
‘Bit of a mediocre apology to the British monarchy! When you clearly wanted your privacy but mocked others when they wanted it. Shame on you!!’ wrote Mona Gwns.
Rebecca Reuter added: ‘That’s one pathetic “apology”. Pride comes before a fall. Don’t be surprised by the backlash.’
‘Boo. You taking down that post after keeping it for a whole week and writing a petty excuse on your stories won’t work. We have the receipts.’ scathed Gabi Conac.
Many complained that the statement belittled the seriousness of Kate’s health issues and didn’t include and actual ‘apology’ to the ill mother.
Some also defended Blake, stating that engaging with a viral meme is common marketing now and people needed to ‘calm down’.
Mila Grace praised: ‘I honestly find it notable. I was disappointed at first too, but owning up to it and deleting the post was the right move and I have respect for her calling herself out on a world stage.’
‘Lol she made a “joke” by having one photo that was poorly photoshopped. It was a light hearted joke made before anyone knew about the diagnosis,’ defended user textmire.
Kate’s whereabouts became heavily speculated upon, especially after a photoshopped image of her and the kids had gone viral.

In a statement, she said: ‘It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.
‘But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.
‘As I have told them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.’
