Sainsbury’s Sainsbury’s has urgently recalled its own-brand flaked almonds because they have salmonella bacteria.
Customers are advised not to consume the ‘by Sainsbury’s’ almonds sold in 200g packs and to return them to stores for a full refund.
Salmonella poisoning causes most people to experience diarrhoea, fever and stomach cramps that may last for a week.
The bacteria is commonly linked to raw or undercooked meat, poultry or eggs as it usually resides in the gut of birds and animals.
However, previous outbreaks have been connected to products like chocolate, leading to Kinder Eggs resulting in dozens of children becoming become ill in 2022.
Flaked almonds are often used as an ingredient in curries and desserts, or as a healthy snack.
A message on the Food Standards Agency website states: ‘Notices will be displayed in stores where the product was sold.’
It also says: ‘If you have purchased the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund.’
