Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is expected to recover in time for the Champions League clash with Arsenal with Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann confirming he has not suffered a serious injury.
After healing from a freak leg break suffered during a skiing accident in 2022, Neuer returned to the Bayern side in October, reclaiming his spot as no1 and club captain.
The 37-year-old also remains first choice for his country but suffered a muscle tear in training last week, returning to Bayern to undergo treatment.
It rules him out of upcoming friendlies against France and Netherlands, also raising doubts over his availability for crucial club fixtures to follow after the break.
Bayern return to action against Borussia Dortmund on 30 March and 10 days later, head to north London for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash with Arsenal.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Nagelsmann told reporters Neuer will be sidelined for 10 days.
That timescale is likely to rule him out of the Dortmund game but will likely see him be available for the trip to north London on 9 April.
‘Unfortunately, Manu got injured,’ Nagelsmann said, addressing suggestions the injury could leave his place as Germany’s no1 in jeopardy heading into Euro 2024.
‘However, it’s just a muscle fibre tear. He won’t be out for 8 months. So, I don’t change my opinion. I told Marc [André ter Stegen] that I’m thankful to have him.
‘Now, he has the chance to be there. But that doesn’t change my decision. Manuel will be out for ten days’.
Bayern suffered another major injury scare heading into the international break when Harry Kane limped off in the win over Darmstadt last Saturday.
Kane did not train with the England squad earlier this week and is unlikely to start when the Three Lions take on Brazil at Wembley on Saturday night.
Elsewhere at Bayern, January signing Sacha Boey is expected to be ruled out for six weeks after tearing a thigh muscle which will rule him out of both legs against Arsenal.
