Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) stated on Thursday that he had not been contacted by anyone in former President Trump’s circle about possibly being chosen as his vice president.
“I believe anyone who is offered that should feel proud, but I have never had any conversations with anyone in the Trump world about it,” Rubio remarked in a clip from NBC News NOW’s “Meet the Press NOW.”
In the clip, Rubio was also asked if he had talked to Trump about the potential of being his running mate, to which the Florida Republican replied that he had not spoken with the former president or “anybody in his campaign” about it.
NBC News reported that Rubio has been gaining traction as a potential running mate for Trump, according to six individuals familiar with the former president’s search for a vice presidential pick.
In late February, Trump confirmed individuals such as Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat, are all being considered as a possible vice-presidential pick.
Rubio, who was a former competitor of Trump in the 2016 battle to become the GOP presidential nominee, expressed his support for Trump’s 2024 White House bid in January.
“When Trump was in [the White House] I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us,” Rubio wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster [President Biden] has created. It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!” he continued.
