This is the frightening moment hundreds of people at the festival almost blinded a pilot with lasers as a passenger airplane passed over a fireworks festival in Mexico.
Startling video from the festival in Tultepec last weekend shows a large crowd enjoying the event while the airplane passes overhead.
Shortly after being noticed, many laser pointers shine into the sky, illuminating the entire plane in a spooky green light.
The video surprised social media users who criticized the festival attendees for their foolishness.
One person said: ‘I can’t believe how incredibly unintelligent these people are. It’s amazing how foolish they are.’
Another said: ‘It’s not a joke and it's against the law. The people of Tultepec should not do this.
‘Airplanes fly over the area every day and this does not happen.
‘Many people come to the festival from other places and cause disturbances.’
It is currently unclear if the police are investigating the video or if the airline targeted has complained to air safety officials.
The yearly International Pyrotechnics Festival is a celebration of the area’s position as the center of Mexico’s domestic fireworks industry.
Up to 100,000 festival attendees watch and participate in impressive processions featuring large fireworks displays.
The use of laser pointers against aircraft is prohibited in most countries worldwide and can result in imprisonment and substantial fines.
