Manchester United are reportedly going after Juventus star Gleison Bremer on the advice of incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.
Ashworth is set to be United’s first-ever sporting director after being put on gardening leave by Newcastle United – although the two clubs are yet to agree on a compensation package.
Regardless, he is apparently already having an impact on their transfer strategy as it will be a crucial summer for the club with Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to get them back on track.
As per reports from Italy, through the Daily Express, Bremer is on the Red Devils’ shortlist and they have been keeping an eye on the centre-back for months.
And now they will go after the Brazil international after Ashworth approved it.
United believe they can finalize a deal and have already notified Juventus that they are willing to pay up to £43million to get him.
The Serie A giants want between £50-60m but might have to accept a lower offer due to needing to sell players to ease their financial problems.
Bremer joined Juventus two years ago for around £38m, and has been included in the last two Serie A Team of the Years, winning the league’s Best Defender award while playing for Torino in 2022.
The 27-year-old has just three caps for Brazil but could be playing against some of his future United teammates when the Selecao play against England in a friendly on Satutday.
United are looking for a new centre-back with Raphael Varane expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer without a contract renewal.
