A dog has been killed and a woman injured after they were attacked by two larger dogs on a street in Glasgow.
The woman’s Chihuahua died after the brutal attack, while the woman suffered a wound to her back, according to Police Scotland.
It’s believed the breed involved were ‘XL Bully type-dogs’, though this remains unconfirmed.
Sergeant Bobby Fisher said: “We are appealing for anyone with information on this incident, or any local residents with potential video doorbell footage from Finnart Street and the surrounding areas, to please come forward.
Scotland introduced new restrictions on XL Bullies in February this year, which requires owners to keep the animals muzzled and on a lead in public.
Breeding, selling, abandonment and exchange of the breed has also been banned, as owners are now required to apply for an exemption certificate to keep their dogs past July 31, 2024.
If the restrictions are broken, the perpetrators could face a six month prison stint and a penalty of up to £5,000.
The attack in Glasgow comes days after another dog, also thought to be an XL Bully, was shot dead in Battersea after attacking multiple people.
Four men were taken to hospital for injuries caused by the dog, which was killed by armed police at the scene.
Footage showed one man hitting the dog with a bike helmet, while another tried to cover it with a blanket.
A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman both remain in custody after they were arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control.
