The group Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which advocates for abortion rights, is endorsing Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) in the Arizona Senate race against Republican Kari Lake.

Last year, Gallego received a notable endorsement from the abortion rights group Reproductive Freedom for All. from the abortion rights group Reproductive Freedom for All.
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) received that group’s endorsement last cycle, before she announced she would not seek reelection.
In a statement on Wednesday, Gallego expressed his “honored” to receive the endorsement from Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and vowed to continue fighting for reproductive freedom.
Gallego emphasizes his commitment to ensuring Arizona women have the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions, free from interference from politicians like Kari Lake.
After Sinema's announcement that she would not seek reelection, the Arizona Senate race has become one of the prime pickup opportunities for Republicans.
An Emerson College Polling/The Hill survey was released on Wednesday revealed that Gallego is leading Lake, with 44 to 40 percent support. Including undecided voters, Gallego receives 51 percent support while 49 percent back Lake, within the poll’s margin of error.
Abortion has remained a prominent issue since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Arizona Democrats are aiming to place an abortion measure on the ballot later this year to protect abortion rights in the state Constitution.
The Democrats have taken a strong stance against Lake, highlighting her comments condemning abortion as “the ultimate sin” and praising Texas’s six-week ban., emphasizing her comments on abortion and support for Texas’s six-week ban.
Lake has stated she is against a federal ban on abortion, and her campaign has expressed support for paid family leave and tax credits for women.
Lake stressed the importance of ensuring women have access to information about their choices regarding pregnancy, regardless of the legal constraints, in an interview with The Hill last year.
