Bayern Munich’s recent addition, Sacha Boey, is expected to be unable to participate for six weeks in a Champions League boost for Arsenal before the quarter-finals.
The announcement coincides with Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer sustaining a muscle injury in his left adductor during Germany training – prompting the 37-year-old goalkeeper to return to his club – according to reports.
Boey, a 23-year-old right-back, moved to Bayern Munich from Turkish team Galatasaray towards the end of the January transfer window, with the German champions spending around €35m for his services.
Boey appeared in two Bundesliga matches before experiencing a torn fiber in his left thigh which led to him missing the next three German top-flight games.
He has remained an unused substitute for the last two Bundesliga matches – indicating that he was not fully fit – and the same injury has now reemerged during training, which will result in him being absent for the next six weeks.
This information is from German outlet Bild and if Boey is indeed absent for the next six weeks, then he is certain to miss both legs of the quarter-final against Arsenal.
Arsenal will host Bayern Munich at the Emirates on April 9 before their second meeting at the Allianz Arena on April 17.
Mikel Arteta’s team will have a significant advantage when they face Bayern Munich in north London since the German team’s supporters are prohibited from attending the match.
Bayern Munich defeated Arsenal 10-2 overall back in 2017, and the north Londoners will be eager to retaliate as they aim to reach the semi-finals.
The match will feature former Tottenham forward Harry Kane facing his former rivals – who has been in exceptional goal-scoring form for Thomas Tuchel’s team.
