(NEXSTAR) — Trader Joe's is recalling some cashews due to potential salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. the U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted Monday.
Wenders LLC, based in Dublin, California, is recalling some batches of Trader Joe’s 50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews, which were sold in 16 states.
The affected cashews, with SKU Number 37884, may have salmonella and have lot numbers T12139, T12140, T12141, and T12142.
These cashews were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington.
The issue was discovered during routine FDA testing during import, and no illnesses have been reported so far, the FDA said.
Salmonella, a potentially deadly bacterium, can cause fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. It can be serious and even fatal for young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. However, most healthy people recover without treatment, according to the FDA.
The FDA advises customers not to eat the recalled cashews, but to return them to the store for a full refund.
Last week, the FDA announced the recall of certain Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews sold at Walmart due to incorrect labeling.
