Belgium have revealed their latest away kit for Euro 2024 – and it has something particularly special about it.
The design pays tribute to Tintin, the brave Belgian reporter and famous comic character, as well as his creator Hergé (Georges Prosper Remi).
The kit includes a pale blue jersey with a white collar, brown shorts, and white socks, honoring Tintin’s iconic attire.
Belgium introduced their new design at the Herge Museum in Louvain-La-Neuve, with comic characters Professor Sunflower and Capitain Hadock, also from The Adventures of Tintin, present for the unveiling.
‘As a big Tintin fan, I am pleased that our Red Devils will be conquering Europe in a jersey inspired by one of Belgium’s greatest heroes,’ said Piet Vandendriessche, the CEO of the Belgium FA.
‘We are excited to honor a true global icon: Hergé. He not only captured my heart and my mind growing up, but that of so many generations.
‘And that is exactly what the Red Devils, but also the Red Flames, are trying to achieve.
‘Hopefully, Tintin will give them the inspiration to put up great performances, starting this summer in Germany.’
The kit’s maker Adidas added: ‘The away jersey celebrates the rich art and design culture in Belgium, particularly Belgian cartoonist, Hergé, and the famous comic character he is known for; Tintin.
‘Inspired by Tintin’s iconic outfit, a royal nod is found on the back of the collar with a golden crown that shines against a bright blue background.’
Tintin first appeared in Brussels newspaper Le Petit Vingtième in 1929, with more than 270 million comics featuring the character sold worldwide since.
Widely considered one of the most popular and influential European comics of the 20th century, The Adventures of Tintin and its 24 comic albums have been translated into more than 70 different languages and have been adapted for TV, theatre, film and radio.
Belgium will debut their new away kit in a friendly against England at Wembley on March 26.
Domenico Tedesco’s men begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Slovakia on June 17, with further group games against Romania and play-off winner B (Israel/Bosnia/Ukraine/Iceland).
The kit, priced at £80, is available to buy now from the Adidas store.
