TOWAMENCIN — Towamencin Township Police have confirmed they have launched an investigation after human remains were discovered in a water retention basin late Monday morning.
Police got a call at 11:58 a.m. on March 18 from a surveyor doing contract work near the intersection of Welsh Road and Grist Mill Drive. The surveyor reported seeing what they thought was a human skull inside the retention basin. When the police arrived, they found the skull and secured the scene, according to Towamencin Police Chief Tim Troxel.
People from the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and Montgomery County Coroner’s Office came to help at the scene. They found more human skeletal remains and some clothing remnants.
“While there were no initial indications of trauma or foul play discovered at the scene of the recovery, final determinations as to the cause and manner of death, as well as identification of the remains, have yet to be made by the coroner’s office,” Troxel said, adding that an autopsy was expected to be conducted today.
The Towamencin Police Department and county detectives are currently investigating the discovery. Anyone with information about the recovered skeletal remains should call Towamencin Police at 215-368-7606.
