Manchester United have handed Arsenal and Liverpool get a big boost in their attempt to acquire Dortmund winger Donyell Malen this summer.
The Dutchman was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in January, after losing favor at Dortmund.
Given Jadon Sancho joined the Germans from United on loan, giving the Red Devils influence over Dortmund.
The Bundesliga giants want to keep Sancho, so United could have used their interest in Malen in negotiations.
But Sky Germany reports that United have reduced their interest in the winger, who has 13 goals and five assists this season.
This benefits Arsenal and Liverpool, who have expressed interest in the former PSV Eindhoven standout.
Malen has made it clear to Dortmund’s bosses that he wants to leave the club and they are inclined to sell him.
The club aims to make around £42m from selling Malen, whom they purchased for £25m in 2021.
Dortmund will then use the funds to bid for Sancho, whom they sold to Manchester United for £73m in 2021.
United are willing to take a significant loss on Sancho, and will consider offers around £40m.
