Don Lemon, a former host at CNN, questioned Elon Musk about his provocative social media posts and an ongoing advertising boycott faced by X, which was previously known as Twitter.
Lemon asked Musk why he would share something he didn't believe in, referring to his posts on X about Jewish people, the “great replacement theory” and other issues.
The host then asked Musk if he thought he could avoid questions about the ‘great replacement theory’ by moderating his content more.
Musk responded, saying that he only agreed to the interview because Lemon was on the X platform and had requested it.
Musk also stated that he doesn't care if the media criticizes him for his online posts.
Last year, X’s content moderation under Musk and his posts on the platform led to numerous major companies withdrawing their advertising from the social media website.
Lemon asked Musk why companies pulling their ads from X shouldn't be considered a form of free speech.
Musk, feeling increasingly irritated, told Lemon to choose his next question carefully as there were only five minutes left.
Lemon then pointed out to Musk that as the head of the company, he holds the ultimate responsibility.
Musk stated that he acquired X in order to protect the First Amendment, even if it means making less money.
After recording the interview with Musk last week, Lemon revealed that the billionaire had terminated their agreement for Lemon to host a show on the platform.
Musk mentioned that Lemon is welcome to post episodes of “The Don Lemon Show” on X and grow his viewership on the platform.
