Sony has urged individuals to participate in a poll for the best PlayStation game, but they have overlooked one of the main contenders.
PlayStation is likely to be linked with The Last Of Us and God Of War, but for numerous fans, including us, Bloodborne is the top Sony exclusive of recent generations.
Created by FromSoftware, the 2015 title was released by Sony for the PlayStation 4 and has not been available on any other platforms since – even though the company has moved many of its recent exclusives to PC.
It has not even received a PlayStation 5 patch to fully utilize its SSD, which is particularly frustrating considering that long load times were one of the few criticisms of the original. But now there is much more for fans to be upset about.
Bloodborne neglect has now extended to an official Sony Twitter account's poll, which asked people to vote in a tournament-style bracket on the best PlayStation exclusive.
The list of 16 entrants manages to include both parts of The Last Of Us, Uncharted 4, Death Stranding, the PlayStation 5 remake of Demon’s Souls and all three of Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles – but remarkably there is no sign of Bloodborne (fortunately Returnal has not been overlooked).
‘Where is Bloodborne? I don’t like this intern,’ one user commented. Another added, ‘Y’all kept Bloodborne off the list because y’all knew Bloodborne would WASH the whole list.’
Somewhat uninspiringly, 2018’s God Of War is poised to compete against sequel God Of War Ragnarök in the poll’s final, which has not been posted at the time of writing.
Last month, Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki was directly asked about the possibility of a remake. ‘It is a title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans,’ he responded. ‘It does make me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it.’
That seemed to rule out theories that Sony and From had experienced a falling out, which would have been particularly unfortunate given Sony bought a 14% stake in FromSoftware in 2022.
‘I think having new hardware is definitely a part of what gives these remakes value,’ said Miyazaki. ‘Things you weren’t able to achieve on previous generations of hardware, ways you weren’t able to render specific expressions – [new hardware] sometimes makes it possible.
‘However, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all. I think purely from a user perspective, modern hardware also allows more players to appreciate all the games. And so, it ends up being a simple reason, but as a fellow player, I think that accessibility is important. I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform.’
If that suggests a PlayStation 6 remake, it will take a long time, which is unfortunate as after Elden Ring DLC Shadow Of The Erdtree they have no other announcements at the moment.
