Former President Trump slammed President Biden for his Israel policy in an interview scheduled to be broadcast on Sunday.
“And suddenly, he turned his back on Israel, that’s what he’s doing, he turned his back on Israel,” Trump said in relation to Biden on Fox News’ “MediaBuzz” with host Howard Kurtz. “He basically said that Bibi Netanyahu should step aside.”
Biden, who has been under pressure from the liberal faction of his party to endorse a permanent truce in the conflict in Gaza, said urged Israel to “do its part” in allowing more aid into the territory and permitting additional border openings in his recent State of the Union address.
Biden was overheard on a mic following the recent address telling Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg that he had advised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to have a “come-to-Jesus meeting.”
Biden also recently indicated that Netanyahu’s approach to the conflict in Gaza has been “harming Israel more than helping it.”
“What’s occurring is he has a right to defend Israel, a right to keep pursuing Hamas,” Biden told MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart. “But he must, he must, he must pay more attention to the innocent lives being lost due to the actions taken.”
“In my opinion, he’s doing more harm than good to Israel,” Biden added. “It goes against what Israel stands for. And I believe it’s a major error.”
In the interview with Kurtz, Trump also reacted negatively to comments recently made by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) in which he called for new elections in Israel and said that Netanyahu has “lost his way.”
“The Democrats are very detrimental to Israel,” Trump said.
In his statements, Schumer also stated that “[a]s a lifelong supporter of Israel, it has become clear to me: The Netanyahu coalition no longer fits the needs of Israel after Oct. 7.”
“The world has changed — drastically — since then, and the Israeli people are currently being hindered by a governing approach that is stuck in the past,” Schumer continued.
