Singer Steve Harley, who was the lead singer of the famous glam rock band Cockney Rebel, has passed away at the age of 73, following a brief illness cancer battle.
The singer known for songs like Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me) had to cancel tour dates earlier this year due to being diagnosed with cancer.
On February 13, the musician’s team had posted: ‘Because of ongoing cancer treatment, Steve will not be able to perform at any concerts in 2024.
‘Steve is hopeful for a better year ahead. He is grateful for all the kind words and well wishes. Team SH.’
The band became popular in the 1970s for their bold glam rock music, with Harley co-founding the group alongside Jean-Paul Crocker, drummer Stuart Elliott, bassist Paul Jeffreys, and guitarist Nick Jones.
Harley also pursued a solo career in the 80s before reuniting with the band in 1990 and intermittently touring since.
