Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra finished his three-day visit to his hometown of Chiang Mai today by bringing his children and grandchildren to visit the Night Safari zoo, before going back to Bangkok in the evening.
Thaksin, who is currently on parole, started his final day in Chiang Mai by having breakfast with his family at the Oasis coffee shop in downtown Chiang Mai around 8:45 am.
When he arrived at the coffee shop, he greeted a large group of reporters by asking them why they were not reporting on Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s activities that day. He then invited them to join him for breakfast.
When asked about his back pain, Thaksin mentioned that he feels better today, but still uses an analgesic spray. He said that he had a great time at dinner the previous night with the prime minister, former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, and several other old friends.
Thaksin mentioned that the prime minister did not ask for any advice from him, because Srettha did not have much time and had an appointment with officials to discuss forest fires.
At the Night Safari zoo, Thaksin was requested by the management to give a name to a white lion cub, which was born about a week ago. He named the cub “Only”, because it was the only cub born to the mother, who normally gives birth to several cubs at once.
While signing the zoo’s visitors’ book, Thaksin expressed his gratitude to the management and its staff for keeping the zoo running, despite the COVID19 pandemic.
The night safari is a popular tourist attraction in Chiang Mai and he encouraged the management to continue improving the zoo.
