There was a question about bugs that stood in the way ofMichael McIntyre ’s The Wheel contestant Bob winning £82,000, and Kate Garraway
was the only one who could help. Kate, who is 56, was one of the on the BBC expert celebrity panelists
on a game show where contestants answer random questions in hopes of winning some prize money. This episode was believed to have been filmed before the death of Kate’s husband, saw Derek Draper, the Good Morning Britain star
was called upon for the final question.
Kate looked extremely stressed when the arrow landed on bugs for a category and let out a deep breath as the pair prepared to answer.
‘Oh god,’ said the presenter, with her face in her hands as they guessed ‘ladybird’ and waited for the answer to be revealed.
Kate screamed as the stage lit up gold, looking relieved to have secured the money for Bob after confidently telling him the answer before adding ‘but I don’t know.’
‘Can we hug?’ she asked as the dad from the Wirral rushed over to her seat since she was trapped on the spinning chair.
The pair embraced as they both repeated ‘Oh my god’ in disbelief at the huge sum of money he had won.
‘Have a fantastic wedding,’ Kate added, since Bob had shared that the prize money would be given to his eldest daughter for her big day.
When he first appeared, he had shared: ‘She and her partner have been together for nearly 20 years now and the last few years they’ve been trying to organize a wedding but because of finances she’s had to put it on hold.
‘She really deserves a nice wedding and I’ll put all the money towards that.’
After the excitement died down, the granddad of four sat back down and said: ‘We’ll have a good do now and my eldest, she really deserves it. I just want to say, Jane — stop looking, start booking.’
Kate looked close to tears as she applauded the lucky winner and mouthed ‘well done’ as the show wrapped.
The presenter has stepped away from many of her hosting duties since the death of her husband, who had suffered from one of the most severe cases of long Covid.
He died in January and she recently had to defend herself against cruel trolls who questioned why a documentary about him was airing after his death.
She said it was the ‘right thing to do’ for Draper, and their two children, Darcey, 18, and Billy, 14, as well as the ‘millions’ of other people who also care for a loved one or family member.
Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel is shown on BBC One on Saturdays.
