With a slim 7-6 lead at halftime, the hosts aimed for a second try against a strong Scottish backline, and Andrew Porter eventually broke through to extend their lead.
There was late excitement when Huw Jones broke through the Irish defense to score Scotland’s first try of the afternoon with three minutes remaining.
However, the champions managed to hold on and keep the title in Ireland for another year.
England face France in Paris tonight and required an Irish mistake and five match points to make a surprising last-minute title challenge.
