Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) stated that “older white men” should listen to women on the abortion issue on Thursday.
“I believe older white men need to improve how they discuss this topic. And the key thing is to listen to women, pay attention to their thoughts,” Walz said said in an interview on CNN’s “The Source” with anchor Kaitlan Collins. “We have observed that when we listen to them, they are expressing their views strongly on the matter, and they are expressing them at the ballot box.”
Vice President Harris visited visited a Planned Parenthood clinic in Walz’s home state on Thursday, making history as the first sitting president or vice president to visit a facility that offers abortion services.
“I am here at this healthcare facility to support the work that is being done in Minnesota as a model of genuine leadership,” she said, following a tour of the facility. “It is only right and fair that people have access to the healthcare they need and that they have access to healthcare in an environment where they are treated with dignity and respect.”
During his conversation with Collins, Walz drew a comparison between President Biden and Harris' stance on abortion and that of former President Trump.
“The contrast is significant. Donald Trump has made it very clear,” Walz said. “He boasts about many things that are not accurate. He did not create jobs, he is not a skilled golfer, he is not in great shape, but he did dismantle [Roe v. Wade].”
“He appointed judges who are working to revoke that, and he will do it again,” Walz added.
In 2022, Walz’s state implemented a law safeguarding the right to reproductive freedom, including abortion, contraception, and fertility services. Abortion is also safeguarded under the state constitution as a result of the 1995 Doe v. Gomez ruling by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
